SMART PROGRAM

The SMART (Suburban Maryland AIDS Reduction Team) program is a five-year, CDC-funded cooperative agreement promoting HIV/AIDS prevention in Suburban Maryland (Prince George's and Montgomery Counties). SMART specifically targets African Americans. However, services are available to all Suburban Maryland populations.

SMART services include street and community outreach, HIV counseling and testing, prevention workshops, individual HIV risk reduction counseling, peer educator training and a Speaker's Bureau.

Anonymous or confidential HIV counseling and testing are available through the SMART program at Whitman-Walker Clinic of Suburban Maryland at 7676 New Hampshire Avenue, Suite 411, in Takoma Park every Wednesday (on a walk-in basis only) from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM with the last test given at 5:30 PM at the Clinic. Anonymous or confidential testing for HIV can also be scheduled on other days than Wednesday with a bilingual (Spanish/English) counselor by appointment only.
