WHITMAN-WALKER CLINIC MARKS NATIONAL LATINO AIDS AWARENESS DAY

Free HIV Testing To Be Offered

WASHINGTON – Whitman-Walker Clinic observes National Latino AIDS Awareness Day on Oct. 15 as the Latino community is hit hard by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

“Latinos make up only 13 percent of the U.S. population, but account for 19 percent of new AIDS cases,” said Dr. Raymond Martins, the Clinic’s chief medical officer.

“National Latino AIDS Awareness Day is an opportunity to remind the nation of the impact the HIV/AIDS epidemic has on the Latino community,” Martins added. “It is also an opportunity to remind Latinos how important it is to know your HIV status, protect yourself from HIV infection, and get into treatment if you are HIV-positive.”

Free HIV testing will be available Oct. 15:

  • Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center at 1701 14th St., NW, 9:00 am-5:00 pm.
  • Max Robinson Center, 2301 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., SE, 9:00 am-5:00 pm.
  • Suburban Maryland AIDS Reduction Team (SMART), Montgomery County Dept. of Health and Human Services, 2000 Dennis Ave., Silver Spring, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
