NATIONAL LATINO AIDS AWARENESS DAY
Free HIV Testing To Be Offered
WASHINGTON – Whitman-Walker Clinic will observe National Latino AIDS Awareness Day with free HIV testing the week of Oct. 16-20:

Whitman-Walker Clinic will participate in a National Latino AIDS Awareness Day fair on Sunday, Oct. 15, at Unity Park, Columbia Road and Champlain Street, N.W., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. HIV testing and other health services will be available.

Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center at 1701 14th St., N.W., 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
- The Max Robinson Center, 2301 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., S.E., 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
- Whitman-Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia, 5232 Lee Highway, Arlington, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
- Suburban Maryland AIDS Reduction Team (SMART), Holy Redeemer Metropolitan Community Church, 4907 Niagara Rd., Suite 102, College Park, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
“Latinos make up only 13 percent of the U.S. population, but account for 19 percent of new AIDS cases,” said Donald Blanchon, the Clinic’s chief executive officer.
“National Latino AIDS Awareness Day is an opportunity to remind the nation of how dangerous the HIV/AIDS epidemic is to the Latino community,” Blanchon added. “It is also an opportunity to remind Latinos how important it is to know your HIV status, protect yourself from HIV infection, and get into treatment if you are HIV-positive.
Established in 1973, Whitman-Walker
Clinic is a non-profit, community-based provider of health
care and social services in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan
area. Through three sites, in the District of Columbia and
Northern Virginia, the Clinic offers primary medical and dental
care; mental health and addictions counseling and treatment;
HIV education, prevention, and testing; legal services; case
management; and a food bank. Whitman-Walker Clinic is committed
to meeting the life needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender community and people living with HIV/AIDS.
