WHITMAN-WALKER CLINIC MOURNS LOSS OF JAY GANDY

Former Board Treasurer Gave Generously of His Time, Expertise

WASHINGTON – Following is the statement of Jannette Williams, chair of the Whitman-Walker Clinic board of directors, regarding the death of former board Treasurer Jay Gandy:

“The entire Whitman-Walker Clinic family is greatly saddened by the death of Jay Gandy. He gave generously of his time and expertise in the years he served on our board. He was deeply committed to the mission and vision of the Clinic and worked very hard to help ensure Whitman-Walker’s long-term stability. Ours was one of many community organizations for which he volunteered and we are grateful for the years he devoted out of a strong conviction of community service dedicated to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic and winning full equality for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.”

Gandy, who died Saturday, was a member of the Whitman-Walker Clinic board from 1999 to February 2006, serving as treasurer and Finance Committee chair from 2000 to 2003. Gandy was instrumental in the establishment and funding of the Clinic’s endowment in 1997. He was also a member of the Long Range Planning Committee, and he served on the community advisory board of Whitman-Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia from 2000 to 2002.

Before retiring, Gandy was a senior research psychologist with the Office of Personnel Management and consultant to other government agencies and private industry.  He held degrees in psychology from Emory University and George Washington University and completed further postgraduate studies in industrial/organization psychology at the University of Maryland.
