
Medical Services
Primary medical care with HIV/AIDS and LGBT specialty
care is available at both the Elizabeth Taylor Medical
Center in Northwest Washington and
the Max Robinson Center
in Anacostia. Our professional staff and numerous medical and clinical
volunteers deliver high-quality care to the entire community along with
culturally sensitive care for the LGBT communities.
All services are available to the Spanish-speaking
community through bilingual staff and volunteers. Other translation services
are available upon request.
- Primary medical care, including
preventive health care, annual physical and gynecological exams, sick
visits, chronic disease management, pregnancy tests and specialty
consultations and referrals.
- The HIV clinic provides comprehensive
medical evaluations, primary medical care and treatments for HIV disease
and other illnesses.
- Our
dental unit provides full dental services
including cleaning, x-ray, diagnosis, treatment and assistance with
nutritional planning.
- Pre-natal
and post-partum care for low-risk pregnancies and referrals to obstetricians or perinatalogists
for high-risk pregnancies.
- A
pharmacy where individuals may obtain medications at
or below cost. In 2007, the
pharmacy filled more than 25,000 prescriptions.
- Gay/lesbian/bisexual
health services in a supportive and culturally
sensitive environment. Services include mammography screenings,
gynecological exams, sexually transmitted disease screenings, a full array
of professional psychotherapy and counseling services, and crisis
intervention.
- Transgender
health services that
include trans-affirmative gynecological exams, STD screening, and chest
and breast exams, chest and breast self-exam instruction, testosterone
therapy for female-to-male clients, including blood work and medical
examinations, and hormone therapy for male-to-female individuals.
- A
clinical investigations unit that provides
cutting-edge medicine and treatments to Whitman-Walker Clinic patients at
little or no cost through a variety of pharmaceutical investigations. The
unit also plays an important role in research for effective treatments for
HIV/AIDS.
