Behavioral Health Services

Whitman-Walker Clinic provides extensive behavioral health services for the community with specialties in care for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and people living with HIV/AIDS. Services are available to the Spanish-speaking community through bilingual staff and volunteers.

 

o        Mental health services: Individual and group psychotherapy, psychiatric assessment and other psychosocial support, including referral to qualified psychotherapists, are available. 

 

o        Addiction services: This program is staffed by addiction treatment professionals and specially trained volunteers to help participants in their recovery from addiction. Group and individual counseling are available to help address the consequences of substance abuse while transitioning to a clean and sober lifestyle.

 

o        Support and therapy groups: Groups focus on mental illnesses, depression, trauma, coming out, substance abuse, relationships and intimacy, HIV/AIDS, significant others of people living with HIV/AIDS, young adults with HIV/AIDS, Maybe Baby and parenting.  The Clinic also provides peer counseling for gays and lesbians to help and support them with their concerns.

 

o        The Crisis Intervention Line: Emergency 24-hour crisis intervention consultation by phone to individuals experiencing a mental health emergency and to their partners, family and friends. 

 

o        The Bridge Back program: Whitman-Walker Clinic operates a residential treatment program in Northwest Washington for individuals dealing with emotional problems, substance abuse issues and HIV/AIDS.
