GAY MEN'S
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Primary medical care, including regular check ups and urgent care for illness, is available to the GLBT community at Whitman-Walker Clinic. To schedule an appointment, call 202-939-7690.
Screening for human papillomavirus for gay and bisexual men is also available through primary care.
All services are available to the Spanish-speaking community through bilingual staff and volunteers. Other translation services are available upon request.
Gay Men's Health and Wellness
Clinic
Confidential testing for sexually transmitted diseases
(STDs) including HIV is conducted on a walk-in basis for men
only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
at the Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center, 1701 14th St.,
N.W. There are no appointments. Clients
are seen on a first come, first served basis. Thirty-five clients are seen per evening, so arrival at 6:00 pm is recommended to ensure service.
The Gay Men's Health and Wellness Clinic offers rapid syphilis screening along with screening for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
Please note that, in the
Gay Men's Health and Wellness Clinic, HIV testing is
done only in addition to other STD testing. If you only
want an HIV test, check Whitman-Walker's HIV testing schedule
and contact information. HIV rapid testing is free of charge.
Hepatitis A and B Vaccinations
Hepatitis A and B vaccinations
are available free to D.C. residents, excluding the nursing
visit charge of $38 per visit. For all other clients, the charge
is $221 for the vaccine plus the $38 nursing visit charges.
The vaccine is given in a series of three injections: on day
one, one month later and six months later. Hepatitis testing
is recommended before receiving vaccination and the cost is
based on a sliding scale. Insurance does not generally cover
the cost of hepatitis vaccinations.
Health Clinic for Transgender
Women (male to female) is open Tuesdays from 3:30-6 p.m.

behavioral health care services geared specifically
for them.
